Hmm, the smoothing is definitely better in the second image.

One factor that affects the quality of Firefox's anti-aliasing is its ability to use hardware acceleration. In your Question Details > More System Details, it appears that your Firefox is not using hardware acceleration.

Could you try checking for graphics card updates to see whether that allows you to turn it back on? This article has suggestions for safe ways to find an update: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

You can check if ClearType is enabled system wide for all programs to make other programs like Firefox use it.
