when I'm on a website and that website tab is on the upper left side above where you enter website addresses, when I go to exit out of that website using the x on that tab, I exit firefox altogether. Then I have to restart firefox again. When I used to use aol as my browser, I could x out of websites without losing aol. If the website tab is in the top middle i can x out with no problem - I don't lose firefox.

You can set the browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab pref to false to prevent closing Firefox when you close the tab when only one tab is left.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
