sometimes Thunderbird won't save sent messages and drafts
Hello,
lately I have had some problems when sending e-mails. The mails apparently are sent, but Thunderbird hangs on saving the message in the sent folder. Even if I wait for a few minutes it still won't save so I have to abort. Same thing happens for saving messages in the drafts-folder (also when the message is automatically saved there when composing the message takes a few minutes). The strange thing is that this does not happen every time, but just sometimes. I already compacted all the folders, and that did not solve the problem, I also archived older messages in the archives folder, that did not solve the problem either.
Doe anybody have a solution to this? or any ideas what could be causing this problem?
Any help would be much appreciated!

No, it's not an IMAP account, it's a POP account. This happened with an account for a Yahoo address, but I don't think that could have anything to with it, since the sent mails do not get saved on the Yahoo-mail website but on my Thunderbird sent-folder which is on my PC.

I'm having the same problem, accompanied by one other symptom: Messages can not be moved to other folders, either.
I don't know when it started, but it's been happening for weeks at least. I've searched the web through Google and Duck Duck Go, but this is the first time (I think) that I have searched Mozilla specifically.
Thunderbird will work fine for a while, then at some point, messages won't be saved to the Sent or Draft folders; the program just shows the 'in process' dialog for either action until I cancel it. Mail is still sent if I hit send, but a copy is not saved. When this happens, I also see that new junk mail is not moved to the Junk folder either automatically or by my filter rules, although it is still marked as junk. And if I try to move ANY messages between folders manually (via menu item or dragging), the move simply does not happen.
The only way to stop the problem (until it happens again), so far, has been to restart Thunderbird. I've tried compacting (which I do regularly anyway), repairing folders, copying the Sent mailbox file's contents to a new text file and replacing the old with the new, and perhaps other things.
I use Thunderbird to manage six different e-mail accounts. One is IMAP. The rest are all POP. Three of them are Gmail accounts. The other three are hosted by three other different providers.
I am using ThunderbirdPortable, and keep on the normal default build/track/whatever-you-call-it.

I should also add that the problems (not being able to save to Sent or Drafts, and not being to move messages) are not limited to any one account. when they happen, they affect things program-wide.

you know troubleshooting information without server names is about a useless as a life boat with a big hole in the bottom.
Compact your folders and ensure your anti virus has an exception for on access scanning of files in the Thunderbird profile folder. You can not update files if they are locked for scanning.
sorry, I did not post any troubleshooting info for this issue. what is the best way to post it? should I just post it here or is there a way to send it like an attachment?

I've got the same problem on Ubuntu trusty thunderbird 31.7.0 with imap and pop accounts and different mail servers.
The problem occurs daily, seldom already when starting tb. Only workaround is restarting tb. Really bad when a long message is already sent. All the content is lost since it is neither saved to drafts nor sent.
