Firefox ESR 52.8 needed for Silverlight
We are using 52.8 for Silverlight and are in the process of migrating away but still need to use Silverlight for the near future.
Since Wednesday 5 September we have seen Firefox auto update constantly, sometimes it takes 4-6 attempts to install v52.8 to get it to stay and even they sometimes it still updates to 60 or Quantum. We have disabled updates, turned off the app.update.url, silent and other "tips" but we still see it updating frequently.
Has there been an update within Mozilla that is now forcing updates to EOL products since 52.8 is EOL now? like a percentile of users are receiving the updates daily? Any way around the update push to keep them on 52.8 till we remove Silverlight?

Hi PhoenixFighter, the last release of the Firefox 52 ESR series was 52.9.0esr. This article has a link to a directory of all Firefox releases: Install an older version of Firefox.
But yes, ESR 52 will auto-update to ESR 60 on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. If you need Firefox 52 ESR for a limited purpose, you could consider using the "PortableApps" version. It installs separately into its own folder and can have its own add-ons. While you can't normally run Portable Firefox simultaneously with regular Firefox, there might be a workaround if you check on their forums, or you can start/exit it as needed.

Hi sreithmayer, the last version of Firefox that supported the Silverlight plugin was Firefox 52 ESR (Extended Support Release). That version is now "end of life" and no longer supported. Internet Explorer 11 still runs Silverlight, if you are on Windows.

Thanks for the response jscher2000
Do you know if this is a constant push update for all ESR 52 users now or are Mozilla going by percentile of users still on it? To confirm the portable version can use Silverlight and works on Win and Mac correct?
When Firefox queries for updates, initially, a percentage are informed of the update and then after everything checks out, that will be expanded.
Portable is for Windows.

Thank you for clarifying, one follow up question please, wouldn't the change to app.update.url stop that? or is there no way to stop it from querying for updates?
Some users have mentioned in the past that Firefox was not able to discover updates if that URL was inaccurate. I have not tested it myself and do not know whether that behavior has changed.
