It seems to have disappeared. Dunno why, then again maybe its because firefox updated. But i don't think prompts like that are a good idea if your updating firefox anyway

Mozilla Firefox does not have pop-ups.

I would strongly suggest you follow this : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware Maybe also use this : https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/ If you need help with anything that is found please follow this : https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins or scanning for malware then such a message is likely a scam and you should NEVER respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • only update Firefox via "Help -> About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
  • plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

Sorry i should have been a bit more clear. It wasnt a popup like a new window pop up but it was in the menu button ( where it has new window private window, options etc.) Pretty sure that wouldnt be malware :)

Speaking of though, i did upgrade to the newer version of firefox and i'm kind of annoyed as im one of those who likes to keep alot of tabs open when im on and it likes to sometimes have this damn load bar come up (white screen with grey circle like loading bar) and then for any other tabs open it switches to that too despite them already being opened and fine before! I'll try to get an image of the issue when it comes up again and probably open a new thread for it.

You were running an older Firefox version (Firefox 55.0), so is wouldn't be a error that you saw this message in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list. I've only see this in Firefox Nightly builds, but never seen this in a release. You can see this in case there is an update, but do not have write permission for the Firefox installation folder. You will also see this in "Help -> About Firefox" as update available at http://.

Well using 56 and apparently 56.0.1 is now out because that prompt is now back.
