After installing FF29 strange things had changed. 1. The yellow button in the upper left corner, used instead of the menubar, had disappeared. 2. The tabbar cannot me moved to below the bookmarks bar. 3. The chrome of all tabs is identical and borders are hardly to see. 4. MOST OF ALL: clicking on tabs have no effect at all.

Does someone know an answer on at least item 4??

I disabled all my app. 25 add-ons and then enabled them one by one. It turned out that:

  • Tab Mix Plus was responsible for making the tabs to be shown weird and to make them "dead"
  • Back/Forward Thumbnail was responsible for inhibiting/blocking the possibility to change the look and contents of the several bars.

Now Firefox is working as it should. Thank you for your support.

Firefox 29 and later versions have the Australis interface that looks different than the user interface in Firefox 28 and older versions.

  • With the Australis interface the orange Firefox menu button has been replaced by the three bar Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar
A consequence of this new menu button is that you no longer can hide the Navigation Toolbar
  • There is a star like button to the right end of the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu
  • It is still possible to have the menu bar visible via the right-click context menu on the toolbars to have menus like the the Bookmarks menu

I am still unable to use Firefox. The tabs do not respond on left-clicking on it. Also, my bars show very different from the one you refer to, with a star like button at the right of the address bar. Also different from the example shown on the page you refer to: https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/gebruikelijke-vragen-na-bijwerken-naar-nieuwe-firefox My bars are as in the attached image. Maybe the problem I have resides in that I changed the araangement of buttons and bars when using an older version of Firefox. But so, I am unable to change it. The menu-item to make changes does not respond. Before I had no problem with it at all. By the way, I now use Google Chrome instead of Firefox to communicate here.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
