I installed Firefox version 10.0 and now it is absolutely not working. What do I do to fix this?

I upgraded my firefox from 9.01 to 10.0 and now it is completely screwed up. When I click on the Firefox icon I get this message:

Error: Platform version '9.01' is not compatible with minVersion > = 10.0 maxVersion < = 10.0

I use firefox on a Windows Vista every single day of my life, so for this not to work is a serious problem to me.

I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, but that did not work.

Please help me figure this out.

Thank you so much

GG

If using Zone Alarm's browser virtualization or any other similar product or a sand-boxing program (i.e., Sandboxie), turn it off when updating Firefox or Firefox Add-ons. You can post on the forum for any such product that you might be using to get other instructions on the proper use of the product.

The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions. Do a clean reinstall. See: Browser will not start up - XUL Runner error after an update

  1. Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
  2. Uninstall your current Firefox version.
  3. Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
  4. Install the fresh copy of Firefox that you downloaded in step 1

Can you kindly tell me how I can get to safe mode? I can't open my browser at all to even get to the option Safe Mode. Thank you so much, GG. <3

You can try to type firefox -safe-mode in the Start menu Run box (or press Windows key + R) and press OK.

Hi, it should be firefox -safe-mode in my previous post. Sorry about the error. I've corrected it.

Hmm, nothing's showing up. The only safe mode thing that comes up is Mozilla Sunbird's safe mode. Thanks for your time, it is greatly appreciated. By the way, Firefox is installed in my Program Files (x86). Is this right?

You can try to put the full path in double quotes: "?:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox" -safe-mode.

Nothing's showing up there, either. I don't really know what's going on. I am having my boss check it out when he gets back to the office, so for now I'm using Chrome. It's the first time and it's SO annoying because I have no saved passwords in Chrome. But I want to thank you for helping me try to figure this out!

Please also try deleting the updates.xml and firefox-moz* files and the updates folder in the Program Files folder, if present.

You can take a backup of the important files which could be useful later. The personal files/settings are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder.

The key3.db + the signons.sqlite are needed to restore saved passwords. The places.sqlite stores the bookmarks and the history, the cert8.db stores the imported certificates etc. Please also see Backup

Firefox Profile Files.

Ooooh! Okay, thanks! Yeah, I do regularly back up Firefox using MozBackup, so once my Firefox is fixed, I should be good to go! Thanks again! Happy Early Groundhog day :D

Oh! Yes, I was running Zone Alarm at the same time. So, I should turn off Zone Alarm, uninstall Firefox, reinstall it and then it should work? And then I should turn my Zone Alarm back on, right? Thank you!!
