Is it possible to remove Mozilla's title bar?

more options

Hi. I was just looking at Google Photos on both Firefox and Chrome. Chrome had a bigger picture because the window had only the tabs bar and the address bar, and Firefox has an additional title bar. I was wondering if it would be possible to remove the title bar so the picture on both browsers were the same size?

Hi there--thanks for the reply; I was able to remove the title bar. If another user has this question, here's what I did. I removed the title bar by clicking the three bar button and clicking on More tools, then clicking Customize Toolbar and removing the tick for Title Bar; I have Ubuntu Mate 22.04.

It's definitely possible on Windows, but on Linux it may depend on your shell. If you go into the Customize tab, is there there a Title bar checkbox at the lower left?

Is it impossible to do this with XFCE4 / Debian 12? Because I can not see the checkbox. (Chrome can do this...)

The checkbox is hidden if Firefox can't replace the titlebar with the tabs bar on your OS/shell. You could try modifying the underlying preference to see whether it would actually work correctly, but I don't have high hopes:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.tabs.inTitlebar and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox should display a row with the current value:

  • 0 => Show title bar
  • 1 => Replace title bar with tab bar
  • 2 => Use platform default

(3) Double-click the preference to display an editing field, and change the value to 1 then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change. If the results are not good, use the reset arrow at the right end of the row to revert.

Thank you!

The strangest part, I just wanted to check this answer, but when Firefox started up, the title bar was not there and I have the Title Bar checkbox. It is very strange because I restarted my machine several times (without any luck for this setting) and I did not do any update in the meantime.

But anyway, thanks for the answer! Maybe it will work next time with this solution (and maybe I can give more info when it happens again).

Hi!

It happened again, but as a workaround I could use the following: ``` export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME firefox ``` I found the solution here: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-341911/Merge-main-menu-with-window-title-not-available-any-more
