We have about 35 versions of firefox running across the enterprise (38 to 91) and I have been tasked to update the EOL dates for all versions we have to help bring things up to speed and know what is/is not supported.

I found this page with release dates (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/releases/) but nothing about when a version has reached it's EOL. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi David, it's definitely time for many updates.

Regular releases of Firefox reach their EOL when the next version is released (rapid release model). The current release is 104.0.2 and 105.0 is scheduled to release tomorrow.

Extended Support Release versions reach their EOL four weeks after the last release in the series. Of the numbers you mentioned, only Firefox 91.13.0esr is still supported, and only until tomorrow, when it is scheduled to be replaced by Firefox 102.3.0esr.

Jefferson,

Thanks for your help. So for these 3 below (sampling) confirm if I have the date calculations correct for EOL so I can update our systems with the items I need to do

38.01 (regular release) EOL is 6/2/15 (released on 5/14/15) since 38.0.5 was released on 6/2/15 52.4.1 (which is an ESR) EOL is 7/24/18 since 30 days past 52.9.0 (last in release) is 6/26/18 78.4.0 (which is an ESR) EOL is 11/2/21 since 30 days past 78.15.0 (last in release) is 10/5/21

Thanks

Dave

Since 52.4.1esr and 78.4.0esr were not the last in their respective series, the EOL would be the release date of the next in their series.

So since 78.4.0 (released 10/20/20) goes next to 78.4.1 (released 11/10/20) it would be 30 days past the release date of 78.4.1 so 12/10/20 ?

The only time there are four more weeks are after the last in the ESR series, at which point that entire series is replaced by the next ESR series.

Firefox 78 ESR is EOL with no more updates since the 78.15.0 ESR Released October 5, 2021.

Firefox 91 ESR is pretty much EOL now with no more security/stability updates as 91.13.0 ESR was the last as the only ESR channel for the time being will only be Firefox 102.x ESR.

The next major version ESR will be based on will not be till Firefox 115.0
