How do I add a new sub-folder from the folder itself?
I have hundreds of folders and sub-folders. I have two questions. 1. how do I add a sub-folder to a folder or sub-folder through 'message-> move to' or 'go->folder': this would be so much faster than having to scroll through the whole left-side menu of folders. 2. how do I colour my folders: I used to be able to do this and it made specific folders much easier to find.

I'm not aware of a way to add folders through the move or go to menu. There is an add-on that enhances Move To or Go, but the folders have to already exist.
As for coloring folders, Colored Folders is expected to be available soon.

How do I encourage Thunderbird to add the #1? -- i.e. adding to 'message ->move to' the options of 'add folder' or 'add new folder'. Certainly other people who have a large number of folders must have this problem as well.

If you can do it in Yahoo Mail (create new folder for a specific sender) to hold both received and sent mail to or from that sender , as a "Move To" command, then we should certainly be able to do it in Thunderbird. That ability has been on Yahoo for at least 10 years.
