Emails have disappeared from my inbox, and folders have disappeared

Early in December 2016, all my emails in the inbox that had been received in November 2016 were somehow moved to the deleted folder. A similar thing happened in January 2017 with the emails from December 2016. At the same time some folders have disappeared totally. I still have emails in my inbox from before November 2016. Any ideas as to why??
