Have tried to:

Does this happen on every website? if it happened only on a specific website, that could simply mean that the site's script was poorly written, etc.

I'm assuming by "JAVA-scripts", you mean JavaScript, not Java. Correct?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

• Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

However, i tried these things one more time just to be sure but still the same problem. As soon as the browser hits Java, Safe Mode or not, it halts. No problem in IE8 or latest Chrome though.

ry a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

• Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will lose all personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

• It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

OK, you said you've tried "restoring Firefox to its default settings". Does that mean you followed Firefox >> Help >> Troubleshooting Information >> Reset Firefox?

If you haven't yet, maybe that'll help (but not in Safe Mode!!!).

Also, try visiting about:config in the Awesome Bar. Once you've entered Firefox's config menu, search for 'script'. Survey everything that's bolded (it will also say "user set"). Does anything look funny? If so, right-click on it and reset it to default.

Created a new profile using firefox.exe -P but issue remains. Even created a new Windows profile and logged into the new account.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Just tried starting Windows in Safe Mode to see if any other running tasks where causing issues but problem remain.

I just realized something! If everything works fine in Firefox's Safe Mode, it is impossible for whatever's happening to be the fault of JavaScript!

You see, JavaScript is enabled by default, even in Safe Mode.

When you said that you "disabled Java", did you go into the Add-Ons Manager to do it?

If so, everything should be just about clear.

Have tried disabling HW accelleration earlier from the Advanced menu. Now tried this:

I promise you guys that i'm dedicated in trying things exactly as adviced and appreciate your assistance. I'm not a noob per se as i've used computers all my life and worked 7 years as a network support tech (and 6 years before that on computer support) knowing how frustrating it can be when customers don't follow or skip advice as given.

That disables JavaScript, not Java. Most websites will not work properly with JavaScript disabled.

Java is disabled by going to Add-ons > Extensions and disabling Java SE Runtime there, then restarting Firefox.

What happens when you use Aurora or Firefox Beta?

Sorry i'm mixing up Java with JavaScript. As all my screenshots show, it's always things called .js that gets unresponsive so i guess that's JavaScript. It also works fine when i unhook Tools/Settings/Content/Enable JavaScrip, but as TheOldFox wrote, most sites does not work properly after this.

I installed FireFox 21.0b7 but did not notice any difference. Also, i'm not running any antivirus or other security applications which probably is kind of stupid, but i'm behind a HW firewall and is pretty cautious of what i do.

I must give credit for the speed of the feedback i get on this forum. Applause! I just wish i could write soon that we found the solution. I'm starting to get sick of Chrome and IE ;)

You can try to disable the JavaScript JIT compiler.
You can check Boolean javascript.options prefs (javascript.options.*jit) on the about:config page.

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

• all extensions are disabled
• the default theme is used (no persona)
• userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored
• the default toolbar layout is used (localstore-safe.rdf)
• the Javascript JIT compiler is disabled
• hardware acceleration is disabled

• plugins are not affected
• preferences are not affected

@ cor-el: Actually, RedFarmer just said that nothing works, even in Safe Mode. RedFarmer has to disable JavaScript from running in the browser in order to not encounter the problem.

@RedFarmer: Did I get the above comment to cor-el correct? Also, try another about: config keyword. Look for "javascript". Unless it's an add-on or extension, reset any javascript configuration to default.

Also, run a virus removal tool such as AVG Removal Utilities or the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool on your PC, and it'd also be a great idea to install an antivirus suite. Windows Defender is a no-frills antivirus package that is integrated into Windows 7 and Windows 8. You can quickly activate it from the Security tab in the Windows Action Center. Or, you can get something else like AVG Free.

Have you tried Firefox Aurora yet?

I MISSED THIS: Go to about:support. Scroll through the entire page. Look at everything. If something seems out of place, go change it in about:config to default.
