"RECENTLY CLOSED TABS" now only shows about 10 closed tabs
For years, when I've clicked on the HISTORY tab in Firefox and then hovered my mouse over RECENTLY CLOSED TABS, I'd have a nice long list of websites I'd visited over a period of time. Not long ago, I had to 'refresh' Firefox because I was getting that 'not responding' issue a lot. Firefox has worked great since the 'refresh'. However, now when I go to RECENTLY CLOSED TABS, instead of my nice long list of sites, only about ten show, ever, even if I've been to 50 sites and closed them that day. I've looked, but I cannot figure out how to fix this or what controls it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'm using Win 7, Firefox 54.0.1.

Ten is the default for closed tabs and three is the default for closed windows. If you had increased one or both of those before, you may have lost your customization due to some damage to the prefs.js settings file, or using the Refresh feature, or creating a new profile, or possibly using Sync with a different Firefox profile.
I can't think of any way to bring the missing data back, but you can increase those values going forward. Here's how:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the following preferences to modify their value:
- browser.sessionstore.max_serialize_back - maximum number of pages from "back" history that can be restored (default 10, earlier pages discarded)
- browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo - maximum number of closed tabs stored/restorable for each window (default 10, previously closed tabs discarded)
- browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo - maximum number of closed windows stored/restorable per session (default 3, previously closed windows discarded)
If you end up with some irrational value, right-click > Reset will restore the default.

Have you tried all the steps described in this support page ?
I'd recommend you to read the last part of the page especially (Troubleshooting), because it might address your problem.
Let me know if these suggestions help, otherwise I'll do more research for you.

Thank you, jscher2000, for the post. I used that and changed the numbers and voila, I can see the list growing as I've been online doing different things. I really appreciate the detailed instruction since that was new to me.
Thanks for the other replies, too. I appreciate everyone taking the time to try to help me out.
