Crashes also in safe mode
Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?
Hi Fred. Thank you very much for the quick response. Yes much to my surprise, I am able to load Firefox when I start the computer in safe mode. I am not able to load Firefox in safe mode when I have started Firefox normally however.
Is there something I can do to Firefox while I am in safe mode to fix the program from crashing when I am not in safe mode?
Thanks again for your assistance.
In your crash report, one of the listed modules is QIPCAP.dll which is part of your Websense security software. This might or might not be the cause of the crash, I can't tell. Do you have any other report IDs?
Recent versions of Firefox and Websense have had severe compatibility problems, although I haven't seen many reports regarding Firefox 44. The Websense support matrix currently shows compatibility with Firefox 42 and earlier.
Up to now I have been recommending the following if Websense is confirmed as the source of the problem:
If Websense is an unchangeable feature of your environment -- you can't update or disable it -- or if updating doesn't help, then you might want to try switching to the Extended Support Release version of Firefox (ESR). This is derived from Firefox 38 and while it will get security updates over the next several months, it will not get new features. Websense supports Firefox 38.
If you decide to switch, here is how I suggest installing it:
Clean Reinstall
We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.
(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.6.1esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)
(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
(C) Rename the program folder, either:
(64-bit Windows + 32-bit Firefox)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx44
(Other versions)
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files\Fx44
(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
- \Fx44\Plugins
- \Fx44\browser\plugins
Brilliant! That was the problem. The Firefox 38.6.1esr fixed the problem. Thank you so much for your prompt attention to this. It is very much appreciated.
