Every so often websites will load improperly when I start up Firefox. This encompasses all the problems in the "The website loads but doesn't work properly" section of this help page: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Error%20loading%20web%20sites Images won't load, page formats will be messed up, scripts don't run, etc.

This started happening ever since the 4.0 update but I kept hoping the problem would correct itself so I didn't submit a question until now. Sometimes a reboot will help, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it will happen for several days in a row, other times it will be a week or two between occurrences. The odd part about it is that entering private browsing mode fixes it. I stumbled upon that part after trying everything else I could think of by just changing settings one at a time until I struck upon that. I'd be curious if there are any other users with a similar problem or if anyone has any thoughts on it.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I have CCleaner clear my cookies, cache, session info and history every time I reboot (every day) but this problem extends to nearly every website I visit from Google to banking websites to sites like Fallout New Vegas Nexus. Starting in safe mode was one of the first things I tried. I also tried disabling all add-ons.

I've tried just about every thing I can come up with and, other than the private browsing mode, nothing has ever worked. I did forget to mention though that when I first noticed this problem (right after 4.0 was released) I kept tinkering around and I think (85% certainty) that on occasion, I would open Firefox and it would be fine but I would do a little testing and upon entering private mode, these problems would show up again then disappear once I went back to normal mode. I'll have to keep it in mind to start testing things like that again so I can say it with certainty or not.

I'll also add that I'm a fairly advanced user so some of the more basic stuff, I've probably already tried. Thanks for the shot though and I'd welcome more suggestions.

Does it work if you disable CCleaner?

It is possible that CCleaner has corrupted files in the profile folder, so you can also try a new profile.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
