I have just accepted an upgrade to V45. Either the message column headings have been reset to default or the default has changed. I can deselect columns without a problem and get the folder looking the way I want, but as soon as I change folders and come back, the columns are all back at the default.

The add on causing the problem was mnenhy. It seems to have also caused Thunderbird to start up with a menu list rather than the inbox and also I could not view any headers - all choices gave what appeared to be 'none'.

Thanks for your help.

Does starting Thunderbird in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode help?

Yes, when returning to a folder from which I had removed the extra columns they were still removed. Exiting from safe mode and reopening as normal, the columns are there and reappear every time I change folders.

sounds like you have an add-on that has not made the transition to V45 without causing error. Disable them one at a time to work out which is at issue. And please tell us which you determine it to be..
