This is so annoying. I've read all the threads about how to get firefox to stop asking me to change my search provider. I want to use Google, period. Under these settings, I have unchecked all except for google. I have unchecked the box that says "provide search suggestions". It doesn't work. I don't have any toolbars installed. Now every time I enter something in the google search bar, firefox is wasting my time and I have to double enter my search criteria. There is only one search engine that matters: google. If you uncheck all the other search engines, and especially uncheck "provide search suggestions" and there is no other toolbars interfering with that, why does firefox ignore my settings? I have blinders on. Google, and only google. I even tried going to the about:config and doing the false setting for the ask option, but that does not work. I have booted in safe mode, and that does not work. I also don't want to disable my add ons. This is annoying. I wished they still provided support for Chrome, or else I would be using that. I just don't understand why Google doesn't understand what I am telling it NOT to do. I am beginning to hate firefox. Again. (I have tried all the latest versions of firefox, and they all just cannot accept what I am commanding it to do, like, it's saying, "Are you SURE you want to use only Google?" So maddening. arrrrrgh......

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. At the bottom of the page, find Location Bar. Check the settings.

I notice that you use an outdated Firefox 38 version.

Can't install a more recent version like Firefox 45.6.0 esr if you do not want or can't use the current release?
