Did you save your Sync Key prior to the uninstall?
If not, how about other devices on that Sync account?
It usually does it automatically after I sync up and the code I got didn't work. So I was trying to get another one or redownload it and no other devices
If you generate a new sync key then all data stored on the Sync server is reset, so you can't retrieve it anymore.
The sync key is used locally to encrypt your data before sending it to the sync server, so you should always backup this key to a safe location.
thank you for your help and I hate to ask, but why is it asking me to update my key, cause I just put in my new sync key and it won't work
Which code are you using?
Is this the 12-character code to pair a device or are you entering the full details (username/email and account password and the 26-character sync key)?
both actually
is there anything i can do or am i sol
What is the current situation?
I assume that you are using the correct email and password to connect to the sync account.
Are you using a new sync key or have generated a new sync key or can you still use the original sync key that was initially used to store your data on the sync server?
a new generated key and yes i am using the right username and pw
With a new sync key you can only store new data on the sync server.
All data currently stored on the sync server is removed automatically when you generate a new sync key because the sync key is used locally to encrypt data on your computer before uploading it to the sync server.
so i can't get my old bookmarks then?
You can't get back your bookmarks from the Sync server once you have created a new sync key, so if you did like you wrote then they are lost.
Did you delete your personal data (Firefox profile folder) or do you still have any data left (e.g. the bookmarkbackups folder would have JSON backups)?
not %100 sure, just uninstalled and reinstalled firefox after I got my sync key
the recovery key system it's totally idiotic!! If Mozilla can't guarantee my account safety and need a recovery key, why should i trust this feature at all? If you are traveling and need to use your bookmarks in another device, it's impossible!!!! Why the hell i need my data stored in the cloud if i can't remotely access????????????????????
