Email signature acting funny
I am testing out Thunderbird with Dynu.com's email server. The problem is I'm seeing double signatures when I test this. All mail is sent out using the latest version of Thunderbird, v91.10.0 (64 bit) on Windows 10 Enterprise. Latest build and fully updated.
Test 1:
- Dynu - Signature Enabled
- Thunderbird - Signature Enabled
- Result of sent mail = Double signatures (One on top of the other. See attachment)
Test 2:
- Dynu - Signature Enabled
- Thunderbird - Signature Disabled
- Result of sent mail = No signature
Test 3:
- Dynu - Signature Disabled
- Thunderbird - Signature Enabled
- Result of sent mail = Single signature
See attachments to verify.
Now normally this would not be a big deal. However if I'm on the go and need to use their webclient to send an email, it would have no signature in it in order to get it to work with Thunderbird.
Please advise.
Thanks, Pat

This is not a Thunderbird issue, as TB is just doing what TB does. I suggest pursuing this with dynu dot com to resolve this.

Sent via Thunderbird, so Thunderbird account settings say add signature and it is added and recipient should get signature. However, as this is going though Dynu smtp server - Dynu has decided to append a signature. - I agree - it looks Weird.
checking setting in the Dynu webmail account. https://www.dynu.com/Resources/Tutorials/EmailServices/EmailServiceSetup/FullServiceEmail#Signature
When you send an email via Thunderbird, you are sending using Dynu smtp server, so email is being sent from the domain name.
For some unknown reason, Dynu is detecting the signature settings within the sent email and seems to be believing it needs to add signature because if Thunderbird does not add signature as per Test 2 then signature in content not detected.
Test 2 and 3 are normal.
How are you adding the signature in Thunderbird ? Do you enter the signature in the Account Settings 'Signature Text' box? OR did you use Thunderbird Write compose window to create the signature, then save it as a HTML file to suitable folder on computer (I have a folder called 'Signatures' in 'Documents' and it contains everything I use in signatures such as images and the created HTML file) and set the Account Settings option to 'Attach the signature from a file instead' and chose the HTML file you created?
Basically Thunderbird is not controlling what the Dynu chooses to do, but what is triggering Dynu to believe a signature must be added? I have an idea which needs testing.
As test 2 email was not detected as having a signature I notice there is a signature delimiter in the images.
Please do this test: In webmail make sure all is switched on - enable signature. In Thunderbird:
- Menu icon ≡ > Preferences > General
- Scroll to bottom and click on 'Config Editor' button which opens in a new tab.
- It will offer a friendly warning :)
- In top search type: suppress
- look for: mail.identity.default.suppress_signature_separator
- double click on that line to toggle the value from 'False' to 'True'
- Or click on the far right toggle icon.
Then create a new write message and send test email with signature. Please reply with info on how signatures are set up in thunderbird and also the result on delimiter removal.
