I am using Macbook with Mac OS X 10.5.8. Today, I updated my Firefox to 13.0.1 following suggestions. I had the following problems immediately.

1. After I downloaded a PDF file online, Firefox crashed. The download, however, was successful.

2. I thought this was an accident and did not pay attention until I had to download another PDF file. This happened again ! Then I did some test. I tried to open email attachment in Gmail. It is fine if I just view them in Gmail; however, if I choose to download, Firefox crashes after downloading. This happens to DOC, JPG, TXT, etc...

3. Then I tried to click Tools -> Downloads. As long as I clicked Downloads, Firefox crashes !

I don't know what is the problem, but it seems that the Downloads report window, which usually pops out after downloads, can not be displayed...

So, please help me ! I have to view a lot of academic papers online and the crashing problem is really annoying !

Best, WJ

Try to delete the downloads.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder

See:

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Thanks cor-el ! Your suggestion solves the problem partially.

1. I removed downloads.sqlite, and can download files. However, there is no confirmation. I have to go to the saving folder to check that the downloads are successful.

2. Obsessed maybe, I clicked Tools - > Downloads, and Firefox crashed immediately. I restarted Firefox, tried to download, and then Firefox crashes after downloading, the same problem as before. (Of course if I delete the download.sqlite again, and never click the Downloads tools, everything is OK).

So, my problem is partially solved, but I still hope to be able to see the download confirmation window, which seems still not compatible with Firefox 13.0.1.

Thanks again !

Make sure that you remember the download history:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: "Remember download history"

Hi, I have that preference setting "Remember download history" and I have the setting

Firefox > Preferences > General > Downloads : showing the Downloads window when downloading a file.

The problem is the updated Firefox is not doing so for me, and I have no access to the Download windows.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can try to reset Firefox.

Reset creates a new profile and tries to import some settings from the old profile leaving the old profile intact.

Even in Safe Mode, I have : Tools>Downloads ---> Firefox crashes !

The same problem remains after I reset Firefox following Help>Trouble shooting information>Reset Firefox...

The problem is gone today. I guess restarting the computer (not just Firefox) solves the problem.
