Lately, almost every site I've been on, Firefox tells me I need to update my plugins. When I check which ones, a list comes up with what I need to update, including Quicktime and Flash under the most "vulnerable". I click to update to the latest versions but I see my mac already has it (I have an ibook mac os x 10.4.11)... I don't understand why firefox is constantly telling me to update various items when my computer itself is telling everything is up to date.....any clue what I should look at, how to fix this?

thanks so much

That's a known bug. See the contributor forum discussion starting here: https://support.mozilla.org/forums/contributors/708284?last=46071#post-46064 .... and the solution given in the related bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=741592#c25 Quote: Jorge Villalobos [:jorgev] 2012-04-06 08:57:12 PDT (In reply to Verdi from comment #24) > I just got a new Java update for Mac 10.7 (Java for OS X Lion 2012-002) this > morning. The Java Preference app says I now have Java SE 6 Version > 1.6.0_31-b04-414 but my plugin version has not changed (with either update) > and plugin check lists it as vulnerable. Try closing Firefox, deleting pluginreg.dat from the profile folder and starting again. This is the problem described in bug 313700.

Thanks so much for the fast response. I did as u said...and it took me a while to locate the folder and then specifically "pluginreg.dat", but i did find it and then deleted it. still, firefox is taking me to the update page ..maybe there's something else wrong? ..i'm out of guesses though i don't know how to continue updating when i have the latest for my OS...

thanks for any help

You appear to have Firefox 3.6.13 and not the 3.6.28 which was the last update for the now EOL Firefox 3.6

If you do have Firefox 3.6.28 then your useragent may need resetting. See bottom of article for Other causes section. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-say-firefox-outdated-or-incompatible?s=reset+useragent&r=5&as=s#os=mac&browser=fx13

If you do have Firefox 3.6.13 then see http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html for 3.6.28

Also if you are using the old Firefox start page hosted by Google http://www.google.com/firefox/ as your Homepage, then it can have the outdated message below search bar sometimes.

I've installed the latest firefox for my mac (3.6.28), but i still see the same message. actually, it's even disabled my java because it's "out of date". after searching for what latest versions i can have of each software for my OS, i found that i do have all of them. here's a list of what firexox says i need to update and their versions: quicktime (7.6.4) shockwave flash (10.1.102.64) java embedding (0.9.7.5) silverlight (1.0.30715) these are the current versions i have but the plugins that firefox says i need to update ....but my OS (os x 10.4.11 ppc) only allows me to what i have. am i doing something wrong...?

thanks again for the help
