Thunderbird often (not always) hangs upon copying a sent message to its Gmail folder (using imap)

Upon clicking to send a message via my Gmail account, a popup sometimes (it does not happen all the time,) appears right away, showing the progress of its being copied to the Sent folder: it reaches 100% immediately, but then nothing happens for several minutes, the popup remains displayed... Then either the popup disappears, or another one appears saying there has been a problem in copying the message to the Sent folder.

In a few of these cases (of "failure"), I did check my Gmail account via a browser: the sent message has indeed been correctly copied to the Sent folder, so the Thunderbird popup is wrong.

This does not happen when I send messages via a non-Google account.

Technical info: - Windows 10 Pro build 19044 (64 bits). - Thuderbird 91.11.0 (32 bits). - PC Internet speed: ca. 370 Mbps both directions. - Connection parameters to imap.gmail.com: port 993, SSL/TLS security, OAuth2 authentification.

If email is sent using gmail smtp, then gmail will automatically apply the sent label, so it is put into the 'Sent Mail' folder on server - accessed via webmail. This proves the email was sent which is good.

The 'copy to sent' is talking about what Thunderbird is trying to do to the 'Sent' folder in the imap account.

What have you got set up in the following locations? In Account Settings > Copies & folders for gmail account. Do you have this setting selected: selected: 'Place a copy in' Selected: 'Other' and choose 'Sent Mail on gmail email address account' I use those settings and all works ok. What have you got selected ?

Please note: as gmail put copies automatically in the 'Sent Mail' folder, it means you do not need to auto save sent mail. See this gmail link: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78892?hl=en-GB#zippy=%2Cthunderbird

Regarding the 'Sent Mail' folder in gmail imap account: If you switch that 'Place a copy in' then you may want to instruct imap folder to check for any new messages in that folder. Right click on 'Sent Mail' folder and select 'Properties' Is this selected : 'When getting new messages for this account, always check this folder' ?
