this files were not in the profile folder; any case when I came out of folder and ran FireFox from the link available at the bottom of your message, it worked well again. Many thanks.

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? Error messages?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

To reset the search engines, remove these files in the Firefox profile folder; search.json + search-metadata.json + search.sqlite + search.json.mozlz4

search.json.mozlz4 ==only== (v45+)

New files are created when needed. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

What Firefox locale do you use?

There are known issues with some locales where search isn't working in 52.7.0 ESR.

Hi pierobernardo, cor-el meant which geographic/language build of Firefox you're using.

Since you shared your Firefox configuration information when you posted your question, I can see it's "it".

Ciao!

There is a problem with the search engines in Firefox 52.7.0 esr reported. This should be fixed in an minor update <strike>(52.7.1</strike> 52.7.2) so keep an eye on that.

Edit: I see that the current 52 ESR version is 52.7.2, so check "Help -> About Firefox" for updates
