would like to install the latest version but want to also keep old version. Is it possible? Already have created a second profile
I want to keep my old32 bit version of firefox. I DO NOT WANT IT UPDATED.
I have already created a second profile and would like to use that for the new 64 bit install.
Is this possible. May of the extensions i have been using are not working in the 64 bit version of firefox. This is the main reason i want to have two separate versions

Look if you install each Firefox in a separate folder and use separate Profiles for each you can actually have multiple versions of Firefox installed. People who test Firefox builds do this all the time. You also have to make sure you desktop shortcuts are pointing to the correct versions so you are not starting up wrong build with wrong Profile. I gave you a link on how to start a Firefox version with a specific Profile.
The current Firefox version Full setups for Windows is at www.mozilla.org/firefox/all
The first time you attempt this may seem difficult but it is actually pretty easy if you are careful.
If you think this is still too difficult for you in having a second Firefox install then perhaps you may prefer to use the portable Firefox version. It is self contained with its own Profile and will not impact ant regular Firefox install or Profiles for it.

earlier versions are at (need to copy+paste url) https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla Firefox%2C Portable Ed./

Download the full installer of the program you want. During the install, switch to manual and select the folder where you want that Firefox placed.
Make sure you have a separate profile for each version because some things, like add-ons and some settings, are not compatible.
You can use sync to share password, bookmarks, and history. Anything else may not be compatible.

The basics have always been to have separate folders and use separate Profiles with each. You can see shortcut to start a version with a specific Profile so you do not accidentally select5 wrong profile in ProfileManager or start a different version of Firefox with last Profile in use.

Extensions are not really dependent on Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux or 32-bit or 64-bit Firefox.
Unless there is a specific reason to be OS dependent or only made to work with say 32-bit Firefox on Windows like some Antivirus clients do or used to do with legacy extensions.

Well apparently you forgot some steps or dont know the answer.
Because this did not work and because you gave the wrong directions i have now completely lost my version 53.0.2 x32.
I followed the directions you gave and after installing version 58.0.2 x64 I completely lost access to the 32 bit version i wanted to keep. Thanks for nothing.
Could not even access it from the folder. Would double click on the 32 bit version and it would load the 64 bit latest version.
May i suggest in the future that u not respond to help requests for obviously you dont know what you are talking about.
To make matters worse when i uninstalled the 64bit version the previous 32 bit version 53.0.2 was immediately updated to ver 56 and all links, bookmarks, and user data was lost and it would not sync.
Idiot is only word that comes to mind about your so called help. Again thanks for nothing.
Luckily for me i saved all my bookmarks 2 ways because you also failed to tell me that back then up. Another failure on your part is my bookmarks dont carry forward to version 56 32bit or the 64bit latest version. The export to html saved me from losing my bookmarks at least. Another thing you should have mentioned if you are going to give help and be supportive.
The extensions or addons are completely gone and i will have to reinstall them all over again. Another thing u should have mentioned. Thank goodness i download them to a seperate folder in case of a worst case scenario like following the directions of someone who doesn't know how to do what i asked.
Major fail dude. Once again thanks for nothing.
@brhester01, so unless your here for real help those on here help free of charge. Your line of response is a big reason no one else will give you further help from now on.
Really.
Your response to giving wrong technical support is to cop an attitude?
How about saying your sorry for causing me to lose a working version Firefox and the untold time its going take me to get it, Firefox, back to where i had it configured.
Typical, this has to be the reason everyone in going to Chrome instead of Firefox.
I asked a professional for help so i would not have to spend untold hours re-configuring your product. But after following your directions i was left with a misconfigured upgraded version of firefox's 32 bit version.
I was here for real help and you provided a non-solution that has caused me to have to start as if i had never had Firefox installed to begin with.
Your response of "Your line of response is a big reason no one else will give you further help from now on." is just you making excuses for not providing the help and support you claim you there to give and is making excuses for your lack of professionalism.
I asked for support, but instead get blamed for responded to the wrong advice given by a self righteous support person who screwed up in job and somehow my response to that is justification for not getting any response if a future problem arises with Mozilla's Firefox software.
You're a real piece of work. I will be forwarding this response to the Board of Directors of Mozilla to see if they can remove you from your position as a support provider.
Again thanks for nothing.
@ brhester :
Maybe you don't know this : The contributors on this support forum are (for the main part) volunteers, users just like you, trying to help other users in their spare time.
I commend WestEnd on the fact that he stood up for a fellow contributor, and I commend FredMcD on the fact that he chose not to comment on your demeaning post.
Both FredMcD and James have been trying to help you - a little appreciation and grattitude wouldn't go amiss ......
regardless of your defense of both of the as u put it "volunteers" one gave wrong info causing me to lose multi hours of configuration over the last couple of years.
Ive been providing technical support for over 20 years and if i dont have an answer i just dont nilly willy gave someone advice without telling them that theres the possibility that they may lose a configuration if they procede with my advice.
The 1st response was bad or incomplete and caused the lose of many years of configuration. The 2nd response was not even a solution.
Then when the realization of the 1st responses advice cause a complete loss of configuration its im to blame for being upset and describing that persons response as incompetent. Total B.S. on there parts and yours for sticking up for someone who'd give incompetent and/orincomplete advice.
All i have to say is if this is how Mozilla provides technical support they are on there way to becoming an extinct piece of software.
Again the only thing you idiots think is important is that you think you are trying to help. Totally one-sided partisan thinking your are right and i am wrong for pointing out that all 3 of your are wrong.
Did you guys even go to college. Cause your critical thinking skills are non-existent. Defending yourself instead of admitting that you gave bad advice is not taking responsibility for yourself and your actions.
Its fascist thinking at best. "Our opinions are the only ones that matter." everyone else is one of them if they dont agree.
If your going to give advice, especially in a support forum, make sure you supply the correct information and support information if there is a possibility of data loss.
The point is the information i was given was from someone representing Mozilla FireFox. If that person(s) are not capable then they should not be giving support advice. Ever.
You sticking up for them is worse then there lack of professionism. Good job.

Thank you for responding with valid information. Only the most important piece of information i had to figure out for myself as everyone, including you, has forgot to mention that you need to uncheck the 'Use the selected profile without asking at startup' check box or the new version will take precedence and the old version wont be accessible. Plus the fact that if you do not uncheck the check mentioned by me above and run the new version, even uninstalling the new version will not get the old version to work as the installation is now an upgrade because the that checkbox was checked. When i launched the old version after uninstalling the latest version it had already be upgraded from 53.0.3 to version 56 and presented itself as a new install. To top it off the sync portion of firefox was corrupted somehow and i could not sync to at least restore my bookmarks.
Had i been given this small but most important tidbit we all could have avoided this horrible experience. Seems its not so easy as you all made it out to be because not one support person remembered it.
I had to spend several hours surfing the internet to find this information out. Even if i was to follow your latest directions i would end up in the same position, even if your post was the first one i read.
My configuration was destroyed because no one thought to mention that you have to uncheck the checkbox i mentioned above.
Yes i was angry, But you and everyone else would be as well if it happened to them and then they had to figure it out for themselves.
Your the moderator and i hear your warning. But what about those who dont give accurate and complete solutions to those who ask? Seems like the volunteer support dropped the ball here IMO.
