On Linux, clicking a pinned Nightly icon opens a separate "Firefox" (53.0a1) window instead of a "Nightly" window. How can I fix this?

I'm using GNOME, dunno if this also happens in other desktop environments but I'm guessing it does. The attached picture shows what happens right after I click a pinned Nightly icon/shortcut. A new window is opened, labeled "Firefox" by GNOME Shell and using the standard Firefox icon, even though it's actually Nightly (says so on the titlebar and the About window). This is not a major issue but it's fairly irritating and seems like something I should be able to fix easily.

I am using Nightly on Ubuntu 16.10 but with Unity and I would like to look into this one further. No guarantees that I will be able to find an answer, but I agree that it should be possible.

Are you just using Nightly, or do you also have other versions of Firefox currently installed?
