I am using Firefox Personas smaller than 2500 pixels by 200 pixels. They work fine, why can I not release them?

I am designing Firefox Personas.

I created an Animated theme (smaller then 300kb) however the resolution is smaller then the one required.

The personas website only allows me to submit minimum 2500 pixels by 200 pixels, I think there should be some flexibility. My screen is only 1680 wide so that's the maximum I can design with.

Is there no way a category can be added to personas allowing me to add it? People are missing out on this great browser skin, it's quite amazing.

If you would like to see, e-mail me [email protected]

Any help will be appreciated.

3000px by 200px is the standard for the Toolbar image for Personas, smaller sized images just aren't allowed.

Thank you for your response. It was an obvious one, but thank you none the less.

Perhaps I never made myself clear..

1) Majority of people have a screen resolution under 3000 wide. Example, if 10,000 people have the screen resolution of 1024 width, why would they ever need a 3000 pixel wide image?

  • Surely someone can add custom persona sizes options to the website for us to upload our work. I am "optimizing" my images for certain resolutions.

2) If this cannot be done, then can the filesize at least be increased, 300KB is silly for the amount of broadband internet going around it's 2011 not 2001!

Perhaps you can increase the maximum filesize to 3MB? Just have a message on the personas saying this theme is ___mb's etc.

  • Can any of these be done? A response will be appreciated.

You can discuss this at the Personas forum:

43% percent CPU usage from that Animated Firefox Sparks Pro Persona?
That is on my 2.2 GHz processor. You have to be kidding. What are users with laptops going to see for CPU usage. What happens if someone tries to run a Flash presentation or watch an online TV program while using that theme?

You can do whatever you want as far a Personas image sizes (width wise or file size) if you host your own Personas at your own website, but the images have to conform to specs for them to be allowed on the Get Personas website - regardless of the "average" screen resolution of Firefox users.

Thank you for your replies.

cor-el - I have already posted there. Perhaps you can put me in contact directly with the person who has the ability to change the filesize limit and or the resolution limits (otherwise it's pointless me posting if i'm not directing the feedback to the correct person / people).

the-edmeister - You never mentioned what the CPU was at before you loaded the theme? Also I cannot see why that happens on your machine.

My machine is very average, it's dual core, and my CPU went from 9% usage to 11% usage (then it went back down to 9 or 10). Then again, I did have firefox open with 6 tabs and the theme loaded :)

I don't mind hosting my themes somewhere online, but how can I link them to the Firefox Personas gallery? Maybe high quality, decent animations are not for everybody, but at least make it available to those who want it.

Thanks,
