Is it possible to display the actual email address of the sender, instead of the business name etc?

Given all the scam emails bombarding us all these days, I would have thought there would be a setting which allows one to display the actual email address of an email arriving in one's inbox, BEFORE CLICKING ON THE EMAIL, rather than simply displaying the business name or whatever other name the sender has chosen to reveal.

Currently there doesn't appear to be an option for this and if I am right I am truly amazed. I don't even want to click on a scam email. If I see a strange email address I want to simply delete it without any further action.

I would appreciate any advice anyone has on this, including, if I am right, an explanation for why displaying the actual email address in the sender column is not possible.

Thanks

Thank you sfhowes but i note from some of the reviews of this app that it requires full permissions. To me this is not an acceptable option. I would like to know why Thunderbird can't provide this option itself.

The permissions disclaimer is the same for any add-on developed under the new 'mail extensions' system. Although it may seem ominous, it's no different in practice from the permissions granted TB when it's installed.

I guess the TB developers have decided this feature is not sufficiently important to devote resources to adding it to the basic program.
