Every time I right click on an image and select Download image Firefox crashes - ie just sits there with the timer on. I have to restart it. I have reinstalled; uninstalled and deleted folders and then reinstalled; added no plugins; checked I can DL the same images in Chrome; when I restart and check about:crashes it is a blank page. Help please, I work with images as psrt of my income, thanks, Lawry

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? To start in Safe Mode, go to Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

Are you using an extension to add that "Download image" context menu item?

The basic Firefox only has a "Save Link as" menu item to save content.

See:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks for responding Chris, I forgot to say that the problem persists in safe mode. Since I did the last of 4 reinstalls I have not added any extension or plugins. The problem still persists I have also scanned for viruses and so on with 6 different topline virus scanners.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx).

  • You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.
  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

See:

You can try to reset the preferences

When I go to about:crashes it is blank.

I already tried a different DL folder, emptying the DL history and setting the DL virus scan option in about:config to false.

Sorry guys I have tried so many things I have forgotten everything I have tried. I tried resetting a couple of days ago and it made no difference. I woke up this morning and SuperAntiSpyware (I installed yesterday) was making a full auto-scan of the whole system and finding lots of apparent nasties missed by McAfee, Spybot, IOBit, Malwarebytes and Kapersky. It has been running for nearly 9 hours and found 775 sus items. I think I will let it finish and see if it has solved the problem. I will get back to you and let you know the results.

Try to boot the computer in Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works.

Thanks Co-rel I will try that as soon as SAS finishes it's scan. I can't imagine that it is a windows problem though because the only problem I am having is DL images from FF. I can DL images from Chrome perfectly.

SAS finished and removed a not of nasties but nothing changed re: the FF crash. I just tried the F8 win safe mode and it also made no difference. I am completely flummoxed. I was DL images with FF as recently as the 9th.
