Why does Firefox add "index.html" to the URL after I click the Home button?

Firefox recently updated itself to 29.0.1 and whenever Firefox starts up or if I click on the Home button, Firefox adds "index.html" to the URL. For example, my homepage is http://www.nytimes.com/. When I click on the Home button, the following is displayed: http://www.nytimes.com/index.html. I checked the settings and the homepage is just http://www.nytimes.com/.

Do you encounter any problems from it or is it just bugging you? Because adding the index.html add the end does not make a difference for nytimes for example because their homepage is called 'index.html'.

Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the problem you have with nytimes.com Could you try to set your homepage to http://www.google.com/? There http://www.google.com/index.html gives an error so firefox should not add index.html there.

If the problem still persists, let me know!
